95 ford f250 need help with shift kit!?

i just picked up a 95 f250 with a shift kit and its alot of fun for off roading and stuff but it wont change gears to about 5000 revs. When it shifts it shifts hard and fast. Nice when you wanna have some fun but for normal or traffic driving its a real pain . What the story with removing or altering the shift kit. Easy, hard exspensive??? i also hear that shift kits aren't supposed to alter the rpms and that it could something with the vacuum line to the modulator. please help me

It could be a lot of things. Your trans is a E40d trans and it computer controlled. No vacuum lines to a actuator for shifting.

Yes a shift kit will change the rpm shift points. One thing you will need to figure out is did they install
a shift kit in the trans valve body or did they just reprogram the computer bumping up the line pressure to make it shift like a shift kit?

If they reprogrammed the computer it is the worst thing they could have done and more times than not it will damage the trans.

Also you could have a sticking valve but your computer should detect this and send an error code. So we will assume it is one of the first two things. To change the shift point you will need to change the springs in the actuators and they may have not drilled the hole correctly as well.

I would call them if you can and ask them if it has always driven like this and if so how did they change the shift points.
